Michael Brennan wins the Baycurrent Classic in Japan for his 2nd PGA Tour victory of the season

YOKOHAMA, Japan (AP) — Michael Brennan won the Baycurrent Classic on Sunday for his second victory of the season and third on the PGA Tour, carding the final six holes for a 3-under 68 and one margin over Jacob Bridgeman and Keith Mitchell.

“It’s unbelievable. It’s been an unbelievable week,” Brennan said. “Japan was spectacular. The fans were amazing this week. It was so awesome for my brother to fly out here and be here for the weekend.”

Tied for the third-round lead with Bridgeman and Zach Bauchou at the FedEx Fall Cup event, Brennan rebounded from a bogey on the 10th with a birdie over no. 11 and 12 before the winning pair run to the mountains of Yokohama Antipolis.

“I’m disappointed after 10, it probably could have been handled a little better,” Brennan said. “He definitely needs to hit the chips better, but on 11 and 12 he was making a huge roll that was really nice.”

His best par save came on the par-3 16th when he hit a long shot from the green to his feet. He finished under 26-268.

Brennan won three titles in 33 starts. The four-year-old Wake Forest player won the Wyndham championship in August and finished the season with 46 FedExCup points. He won the Bank of Utah Championship last year.

“I just think you can be more comfortable in these situations,” Brennan said. “I was very nervous today, especially down the stretch. Jacob and I had a great fight. Downhill he played really great and it was really fun. We played a lot of golf together in college.”

Bridgeman grabbed a chance to pull even on the par-17th when his 5-foot birdie putt slipped to the right. On the par-4 18th, he had a 55-foot birdie putt over the big fairway that left him 4 feet wide. He shot 69

“I’d be on defense a lot,” Bridgeman said. “I feel like I just kind of grinded my way to the end there. I was able to make some putts at the right times that I needed to. That one on 17 stung a little bit.”

Mania went two shots ahead with a five-hole stretch of 5-under with three birdies and an eagle. He then played the last 10 in the 2nd round for a 68.

“The back nine plays a lot harder than the front,” Mania said. “He gave me some good looks in the last three holes and I unfortunately didn’t convert them.”

Defending champion Xander Schauffele went back to the 18th hole, then left into the trees and closed with a double bogey. He settled for 67, tied for fourth under 13.

“I hit a lot of really good shots,” Schauffele said. “I definitely played good enough golf to win this tournament.”

Brian Harman (67) is also 13 under with Stephan Jaeger (70), Ryan Gerard (68) and Jordan Smith (70).

Jordan Spieth, making his first start at the FedEx Fall Cup, tied for 13 at 11 under after a 67. Japanese star Hideki Matsuyama, the 2021 winner, tied for 21 at 9 under after a 67.
