Brazilian MMA star Diego Lopes says he is interested in fighting UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje, but for the BMF title.
Lopes returns to the Octagon at UFC 335 on December 1 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, when he fights Carlos Oliveira for the BMF title.

Lopes has stepped up to the plate in this fight, and while a win over Oliveira would put him among the elite of the division, he doesn’t see himself getting a title shot against Gaethje in the near future, even if Oliveira beats him.
A BMF has to fight, though, he believes it is very possible.

Speaking to MMAFighting.com, Lopes admitted that the thought of a BMF title fight against Gaethje is very appealing, as he doesn’t see himself getting a UFC lightweight title shot even if he beats Oliveira. A BMF title fight, on the other hand, believes it is very possible.

“I don’t know if I could fight for the (lightweight) title. Actually, even if I win dominantly, I don’t know if I’d have a shot at the title, but I think it’s a very attractive matchup. Take Justin Gaethje, for example. They always seem to look for fights that work well in the sense that he doesn’t care about all the things, or putting things. Consider if Charles fights, because Charles already knows great jiu-jitsu, he can submit him to the ground, and he can submit him, like “He already did. He wants to defend the BMF title – and if it’s against Justin Gaethje, even better,” Lopes said.

According to the latest betting odds for the upcoming UFC 335 card, Lopes is the best bet against Oliveira.
Right now, the odds see Oliveira as the -145 favorite, with Lopes back in the dog at +125.

Dissenters are giving Lopes a lot of respect here, despite the fact that he is the underdog, as Oliveira is a bigger and more successful man and has had experience in the UFC’s lightweight division.
While Lopes is an awesome fighter in his own right, Oliveira is one of the best MMA fighters of all time and someone who has proven that he can win fights both on the ground and on the feet at lightweight, something Lopes has yet to prove he can do in the UFC.
Either way, this should be an incredible fight between two of the most exciting fighters in the UFC today, and UFC 335 can’t come fast enough for this BMF title match between two Brazilian MMA stars.
