The Oklahoma City Comets won a franchise-best 13th straight game during the Bricktown era with an 8-5 series-clinching victory over the Sugar Land Space Cowboys Friday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Oklahoma City (43-24/84-57) scored in the opening inning for the third straight game as Ryan Fitzgerald collected a two-out RBI single. The Comets added another run in the second inning on a solo shot off the bat of Chris Newell followed by a fifth-inning RBI single from Fitzgerald to extend to a 3-0 lead. Oklahoma City continued to pile on with a two-run sixth inning, plating Ben Rortvedt on a passed ball and later connecting on a solo blast from James Tibbs III. Sugar Land (39-28/71-70) got on the scoreboard in the seventh inning with a two-run shot from Lucas Spence before the Comets scored three runs in the bottom of the frame, highlighted by back-to-back homers from Fitzgerald and Matt Gorski. Spence went deep again for the Space Cowboys in the eighth inning with his three-run shot making it a three-run ballgame before Paul Gervase struck out the final four batters he faced to end the game.
Of Note: -The Comets extended their winning streak to 13 games, setting a new Bricktown-era record. The 13-game winning streak is the first in the PCL since Round Rock won 14 straight games in 2023…OKC’s 13-game streak is tied for the second-longest winning streak across the Minors in 2026.
-With wins in each of the first four games of the series against Sugar Land, Oklahoma City has extended its lead in the PCL second half standings and is now 4.0 games ahead of second-place Sugar Land with eight games remaining in the regular season. The Comets have secured the tiebreaker over the Space Cowboys, holding a 10-6 second half record in head-to-head play with three games remaining…The Comets are now a season-best 27 games above .500 and have matched last season’s win total with 84 victories.
-James Tibbs III went deep as part of a 2-for-3 night with two RBI, two walks and two runs scored. He became the second player in the Minors since at least 2005 to record 100 RBI, 100 runs scored and 100 walks in a single season, joining Double-A Biloxi’s Andrew Fischer (MIL) who reached the mark earlier Friday. Across 134 games with Oklahoma City this season, Tibbs has 106 runs, 105 walks and 101 RBI.
-Ryan Fitzgerald finished 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBI, upping his season hit total to 162. He moved into second place on the Bricktown era single season hit list, passing Jimmy Paredes (2012). Fitzgerald is now two hits away from matching Ryan Ward’s record-setting total from the 2025 season.
-Ryan Fitzgerald and Matt Gorski teamed up for back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning. The pair marked the sixth time the Comets went back-to-back this season and first time since Gorski teamed up with Jack Suwinski July 24 at Sacramento…Oklahoma City matched a season-high four home runs in the game for the eighth time this season, last accomplished Aug. 13 vs. Albuquerque. The Comets have tallied eight home runs across the first four games of the series.
-Oklahoma City scored at least seven runs for the fourth straight game, totaling 31 runs to begin the week. The Comets last scored seven runs or more in four straight games June 10-13 at Charlotte.
-Alek Thomas went 1-for-4 with a walk and run scored to extend his hitting streak to a season-best 11 games. He’s 12-for-45 (.266) with six extra-base hits and nine RBI during the streak. His hitting streak is the Comets’ fourth-longest of the season.
