Breeders’ Cup Sprint hopefuls missed English workout at Keeneland on Friday morning Daily Racing Form delivers

Cherie DeVaux scheduled a sophomore workout on Friday, Oct. 2. DRF. The Englishman labored twice, on the 18th of Sept. and Sept. 25 He progressed with a 3-length victory in the Grade 1 H. Allen Jerkens Memorial.

“Anyway, we feel good that there’s enough time to get back on the schedule and do the Breeders’ Cup,” DeVaux said. The six-furlong Breeders’ Sprint will be held at Keeneland on October 31.

The Allen Jerkens son’s victory was Maxfield’s second G1 victory this year. In June he set the pace at Saratoga for seven furlongs, with Stephen Woody winning by 5¾ lengths in a final time of 1:20.44.

The Englishman was bred at Fifth Avenue Bloodstock in Kentucky. He was purchased by Mayberry Farm for $400,000 at the 2024 Keeneland September Sale.
