In the top of the second inning at Great American Ball Park, Milwaukee had a rally going and had already scored two runs. With two outs and David Hamilton on third base after an RBI triple against Rhett Lowder made it a 2-1 game, Sal Frelick launched a drive to right-center field.
Myers ran 91 feet and timed his jump perfectly to reach above the wall and take away a possible home run — and at minimum, extra bases — away from Frelick for the third out. In appreciation, Lowder raised both arms in the air.
“It was pretty close. I thought I was a little closer to the wall. I’m not sure if it was going over or not,” Myers said.
According to Statcast, the drive would have been a homer in only four of 30 ballparks. Myers made extra sure that GABP wouldn’t have been a fifth.
“I kind of had a bad read, a bad jump on a ball [hit by Brice Turang for a single] to start the inning, so it was nice to kind of make up for it with that one,” Myers said.
