Footy Fix: Cavan Sullivan opens his USMNT account; Lionel Messi’s last game for Argentina

A welcome rare international break overlap, where the men’s and women’s national teams come together, if only for a few days. As the women’s national teams begin their work ahead of the games over the weekend, their counterparts on the men’s side have finally wrapped up the international break. The men’s window will also end with a bang – as the revamp of the US men’s national team continues, Lionel Messi will be Argentina’s leader one last time. I’m Pardeep Cattry with the latest.

For the USMNT to survive, then to thrive against Mexico

The US men’s national team continues to go from strength to strength, winning the first significant test of their international career by going 3-0 against long-time rivals Mexico.

USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino relied on experience with eight World Cup players in his lineup, but the three newcomers each impressed in their own right, coming up with much-needed playfulness in a game that indicated more challenges than Scorlini. The Tri imposed from the start, the high intensity approaches outside the gate, so that the US team lacks any restraint in the first moments of the game. Mexico, though, did not lack one thing in the US: a medical center. The opening goal was a microcosm of the game — Juliana Hall had four touches in 27 minutes and the USMNT had just one shot, but the 18-year-old’s ability to find the right amount of time meant her fifth touch was a hand delivered to the team otherwise deserved.

Pochettino’s side turned things around at half-time, though Mexico’s first shot on target was heavily blocked by goalkeeper Diego Kochen midway through the half. As The Tribut he took the use of usmn. Cavan Sullivan scored his first international goal in style in the 62nd minute, cutting goalkeeper Raul Rangel from distance, while Mateo Chavez sent a two-handed slap shot at Sebastian Berhalter five minutes later. The Tri to come into confusion Not to be outdone by the youth, Malik Tillman scored minutes before the final whistle to confirm the victory, a merit of victory that shows the ability of the US team to troubleshoot.

  • Pochettino: “I think it was a good lesson, the first half, because there was a feeling that everyone worked together, sympathized together. When you don’t play well or play the way you think, I think it’s so important to show maturity as a team as a group of players. The 11 players plus the players who were outside, all suffered together. It was a connection.”

Pochettino was careful to create a low-pressure setting for a group of 13 players who were unavailable at the start of the international break, down to the United States’ intense pre-match rivalry with Mexico. The pressure, though, was inviting, and sharing the pitch with an intense Mexico team that had the support of a crowd of 60,000-plus was difficult for the US team. not to feel They brilliantly solved the problems they faced, though they lived up to their billing as the USMNT’s most famous talents yet. Pochettino was careful not to dismiss the individual rookies as part of his plans to “protect” him, but praise for Sullivan’s performance was heaped on him on Saturday, describing the 17-year-old as a “warrior” and “fighter” and urging the entire group to recognize the strategic business of not dealing with himself and the coaching staff against Mexico.

Almost as far away from the World Cup as a loss on Saturday – or at any stage of this international break – the USMNT was always going to survive. The fact that they came out of the conflict against Mexico with a hard-fought, deserved victory, although this morning on the road to the 2030 World Cup makes the barometer to come. The staff measurement of this version of the USMNT effectively begins with Saturday’s game and the results, at least until then, continue to promise.
