Jackson Flora grew up a Giants fan in Pleasanton, Calif., often making the trek to Oracle Park. He returned there in the weeks after the organization made him the fourth overall pick in the 2026 Draft in July, but his journey to make it back there as one of the most-hyped pitching prospects in baseball began Friday night.
Flora spun a scoreless frame for Single-A San Jose in his pro debut against Fresno at Chukchansi Park, collecting a pair of strikeouts while scattering a double and a walk in an 8-5 win.
The Giants’ No. 3 prospect dialed his fastball up to 98 mph, including on his first pro punchout, a called third strike against Ashly Andujar (COL No. 30), the Grizzlies’ leadoff hitter. The 21-year-old again went to a full count on the next batter before eliciting a harmless infield pop. Flora could have had a clean frame, if not for a hard-hit grounder getting past first baseman Jeremiah Jenkins. After a six-pitch walk, the righty escaped further damage by getting his second K on a filthy slider that dipped below the zone.
As he walked off a pro mound for the first time, Flora slipped his cap to the back of his head. Standing at the top step waiting with a handshake was San Jose manager Ydwin Villegas. In total, the Giants’ 2026 first-round pick threw 28 pitches, 14 of which went for strikes.
Flora, a noted chicken sandwich aficionado, spent this spring dominating on the hill for UC Santa Barbara as the top-ranked pitching prospect in the 2026 Draft class. A Golden Spikes Award semifinalist and consensus first-team All-American, the right-hander led the country in ERA (1.06), batting average against (.155) and wins (12) en route to setting the program’s single-season strikeout record with 133 across 102 frames.
“It’s a combination of size and athleticism, the way he moves on the mound,” said Giants senior director of amateur scouting Michael Holmes in July about what drew the organization to Flora. “Obviously, we think his fastball plays velocity-wise, with the way it plays in the zone. Just an array of secondaries, with his two breaking balls and the kick-change. It’s just a real complete mix.
“Most importantly, he’s a really good strike-thrower. We had a chance to meet with him a couple of times, most recently at the Combine. We were really kind of blown away at the competitor he is, the person he is. It’s the type of person we want to put into the system. It’s always nice to be able to add local talent.”

While Flora’s first pro outing comes as San Jose winds down its regular season, there will be the opportunity for more. By virtue of winning the California League North division first-half title (and comfortably in the top spot again in the second half), the Giants are heading to the circuit’s Division Series, which begins next Tuesday.
“Being drafted is awesome, but it’s not the end goal,” said Flora back in July. “The goal is to play in the big leagues. That’s what I’m focused on now, just getting myself ready, continuing to get better. Whenever they need me, I’ll be ready.”
