NEW YORK — When the Mets last saw Tobias Myers, he was in the midst of one of the deepest struggles of his career, allowing runs in eight consecutive appearances before receiving a demotion to Triple-A Syracuse.
The Mets hope the version of Myers that returned on Sunday will be far more effective. Prior to Sunday’s game against the Giants, the Mets recalled Myers and optioned left-hander Jefry Yan to Syracuse. Interim manager Andy Green said he expects Myers to work in two- or three-inning stints out of the bullpen.
Early this season, Myers was one of the Mets’ best relievers, with a 2.05 ERA over his first 10 appearances. But he hit a snag after that, twice going to the Minors amidst bouts of poor performance. Initially, Myers struggled in Triple-A, as well, but he ended his run there with a 1.23 ERA over his final six appearances.
Yan, a 30-year-old rookie known for his on-field celebrations, allowed eight runs (seven earned) over his final seven innings in the Majors.
