Today’s Game: The Oklahoma City Comets can clinch the Pacific Coast League second half title with a victory today when they wrap up their six-game series against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys at 2:05 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark…The Comets also look to extend their Bricktown-era record for consecutive wins as they have now won 14 straight games…Today is the final home game of the Comets’ 2026 season and Oklahoma City has seven total games remaining in the regular season.
Last Game: The Oklahoma City Comets scored three early runs and held on for a 14th straight win with a 3-2 victory over the Sugar Land Space Cowboys Saturday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The Comets pieced together a three-run third inning, collecting a pair of two-out, two-strike hits on a RBI single from Zach Ehrhard followed by a two-run blast from Alek Thomas. Sugar Land also managed to come through with two outs in the fifth inning on a two-run single from Pascanel Ferreras. The Space Cowboys had the tying run at third base with two outs in the ninth inning before Garrett McDaniels forced a game-ending groundout to secure the OKC win.
Today’s Probable Pitcher: Cole Irvin (12-7) is slated to make his team-leading 27th start of the season, tying Matt Perisho (1999) for the Bricktown era single-season record…Irvin earned a win Tuesday in the series opener against Sugar Land, tossing 5.0 scoreless innings with four hits, three walks and four strikeouts. He earned his Triple-A leading 12th win of the season, and he is now one of four OKC pitchers during the Bricktown era with 12 or more wins in a season and first since 2010…Irvin leads the PCL in ERA (3.20) and BAA (.263) while ranking second in starts, fourth in WHIP (1.43) and fifth in innings (129.1)…He has turned in 10 quality starts throughout the year…Across four starts against Sugar Land this season, Irvin is 2-0 with a 1.45 ERA…Irvin made his Los Angeles Dodgers debut July 31 vs. Boston…He was signed by the Dodgers Feb. 3 as a minor league free agent and has previous MLB experience with Philadelphia (2019-20), Oakland (2021-22), Baltimore (2023-24) and Minnesota (2024).

The Comets play their fourth and final series against Sugar Land this season as the Space Cowboys make their second trip to Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark…The teams split each of their last two series, including most recently Aug. 18-23 at Constellation Field…Ten of the last 17 meetings have been decided by one or two runs with eight being one-run contests. OKC is 3-5 in one-run games during that stretch, including Saturday night’s win…The Comets won the first matchup between the teams, 5-1, May 26-31 in Sugar Land as OKC outscored the Space Cowboys, 44-11. The Comets hit 14 homers, which stands as the team’s season-high mark in a series…In the Comets’ 16 wins against Sugar Land, they have scored 105 runs. But in OKC’s seven losses, they’ve scored 19 runs…All of the Space Cowboys’ wins over the Comets have been by one or two runs, including five one-run victories…OKC leads the second half head-to-head, 11-6, and owns the tiebreaker should the teams finish the half with identical records.
The Edge of Glory: The Comets’ magic number to win the PCL second half title is down to two, and they can clinch with a victory this afternoon against Sugar Land. A win would put the Comets 6.0 games ahead of Sugar Land and Las Vegas with six games remaining, but OKC owns the tiebreaker against both of those teams…With a win today, the Comets will secure a spot in the PCL Championship Series to take on first half champion Las Vegas in a best-of-three series at Las Vegas Ballpark Sept. 22-24…OKC has advanced to the postseason four times previously during the team’s affiliation with the Los Angeles Dodgers since 2015 and made the league championship series in 2016 and 2023. The team won the PCL first half title in 2023 and went on to win OKC’s first PCL championship during the Bricktown era…The Comets entered their Aug. 28 game against El Paso tied for fourth place in the second half standings and 4.0 games behind league-leading Sugar Land. Since then, the Comets have won 14 consecutive game to take over first place in the second half standings by 5.0 games. Going back further, after losing three straight games in Sugar Land Aug. 19-21, the Comets were 6.5 games behind the Space Cowboys. OKC has gone 17-3 since then…The Los Angeles Dodgers’ Double-A (Tulsa), High-A (Great Lakes) and Single-A (Ontario) affiliates all clinched playoffs berths in 2026.
Down the Stretch: The Comets have won 14 consecutive games to set a Bricktown-era record, including winning the final three games of their series against El Paso Aug. 28-30, sweeping a six-game series in Round Rock Sept. 1-6 and winning the first five games of this series against Sugar Land. The team’s previous record was 12 consecutive wins, set in 2013…The winning streak is the second-longest across the Minors in 2026, just one game behind Single-A Hickory (TEX). The winning streak is the longest in the PCL since Round Rock won 14 straight games in 2023, and the last PCL team with 15 straight wins was Nashville in 2018…OKC has also won 15 of the last 16 games and is 17-3 in the last 20 games…With a win today, the Comets would sweep back-to-back six-game series and sweep a six-game series for just the third time since the series format was adopted in 2021…Starting July 29, OKC is 32-9 for the best record among all teams in the Minors…Including a win in the current series, the Comets are now 6-0-1 over the last seven series…This is the sixth time in 11 seasons OKC has won at least 80 games during the team’s affiliation with the Dodgers (since 2015) and fourth time in the last five seasons. Last night OKC secured its 85th win of the season, reaching the milestone for the third time since 1998 and first time since recording a Bricktown-era record 90 victories in 2023 (90-58).
Homeboys: OKC owns the best home record in the PCL at 45-28 and has wins in eight straight games at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark for the first time since winning 15 consecutive home games in 2018…The Comets are 18-5 over the last 23 home games and 25-10 in Bricktown during the second half with one home game remaining…This is the team’s most home wins since 2022 (45-30)…OKC has finished a season with more than 45 home wins just twice during the Bricktown era, going 47-26 in 2013 and 52-19 in 1999.
No Doubting Thomas: Alek Thomas hit his 11th home run of the season with OKC last night, his fourth homer in his last seven games and fifth in his last nine games…Thomas extended his hitting streak to a season-best 12 games, going 1-for-2 with a homer, walk and two RBI Saturday. During the streak, Thomas is 13-for-47 (.277) with seven extra-base hits and 11 RBI…His hitting streak is tied for Oklahoma City’s second-longest of the season and is one game shy of Tyler Fitzgerald’s season-best 13-game hitting streak May 8-26. The hitting streak is Thomas’ longest since 2023 when he had a 14-game streak with Reno.
Hard-Line: Zach Ehrhard went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and a run scored Saturday. Across his last five games, Ehrhard is 11-for-20 (.550) with three extra-base hits, six RBI and four multi-hit games…The outfielder is now up to 111 runs scored this season to lead all Triple-A players, and he is two away from matching Ryan Ward’s Bricktown-era single-season record of 113 runs scored in 2025…He also ranks third in the PCL in walks (90) and tied for third in hits (146).
On the Mound: During the team’s current 14-game winning streak, the Comets have allowed 38 runs, with two runs or less in seven of those games and three runs or less in nine of the 14 games…OKC has limited opponents to four runs or less in 25 of the last 29 games (72 R). Since Aug. 12, the Comets have allowed a total of 72 runs (60 ER) – the fewest by a team in the full-season Minors. OKC leads the Minors with a 2.03 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, .187 BAA and has the second-most strikeouts (307) during that span…Christian Romero matched his season-high with seven strikeouts last night as he pitched 5.0 innings with two runs, three hits and two walks. He earned his 10th victory of the year, joining Cole Irvin as the first OKC teammates with double-digit wins in the same season since Justin Masterson and Wilmer Font in 2017… Last night, OKC struck out 14 batters for the second time this series and has recorded 11 games this season with 14 or more strikeouts, leading the league with 1,314 K.
Around the Horn: During OKC’s 14-game winning streak there have been five one-run wins, including last night. Yesterday was also the fifth time during the streak to score three or fewer runs…The Comets have won six straight series finales and 10 of their last 11 series finales. That also includes five straight home series finales…James Tibbs III is the first PCL player to cross the 100 RBI/100 R/100 BB barrier since Greg Brock of Albuquerque in 1982 (138 RBI, 118 R, 105 BB in 135 G). Tibbs leads all of Triple-A with a Bricktown-era record 105 walks…With a Triple-A-leading 162 hits this season, Ryan Fitzgerald is two hits away from matching Ryan Ward’s Bricktown-era single-season record set last season.
