Saffie Joseph Shipper Little Jamie Makes Steps in Goldikova

Eastern-based educator Saffie Joseph Jr. He struck again in the graded stakes at Santa Anita with the boatman out of state. On Saturday, they went one mile on the turf with Little Jamie in the $100,000 Goldikova (G3) for fillies and mares.

In the first period by Tiago Pereira, Little Jamie (9-1) scrutinized the pacesetter Princesa Moche (8-1) in third, entering the stretch stretching around the leaders, then the best finish of all by a neck to prevail over Lady Paris Paris (14-1). Finishing another length back in third was Baltic Fire (10-1).

This was Little Jamie’s second stakes win and first at grade level. Before Goldikova, the 5-year-old mare by Collectas won the second grade Kentucky Downs by one mile on the turf on Sept. 3.

“I just tried to put it in a good spot,” Pereira said. “It broke very well and I placed in third. In five furlongs I brought her out a little to keep her clear on the outside. When I moved three and eights, she was at the same pace. When I pushed a little harder, she responded really well. I want to thank the teacher and the owners for giving me the opportunity. Nice victory.”

Earlier this year at Santa Anita, Joseph rode Forged Iron out of state to win both Goodwood (G1) on Sept. 26. and the GII Hollywood Gold Cup in May. Also on October 3rd, in the Chillingworth (G3), the seasoned Joseph Paradise City skipper crossed the wire first, but was hampered by a first obstacle after the start.

Little Jamie won in a time of 1:34.09 following splits of :22.58, :47.01 and 1:10.82. His previous stakes wins came in January 2025 at Tampa Bay Downs in the Wayward Lass Stakes. A homebred for the J & J Stables, Little Jamie improved to 4-2-7 from 21 starts and more than $465,000 in earnings.
