Dalton Smith will make the first defense of his WBC light welterweight title on home soil when he takes on former champion Albert Puello in Sheffield on Saturday.
Unbeaten Smith, 29, returns to the ring for the first time since becoming world champion with a stunning knockout of Subriel Matias in New York in January.

Puello, a 32-year-old Dominican Republic fighter, aims to become a three-time champion after losing the WBC belt to Matias on points last year.
Cicero will have his home crowd at Utilita Arena. Can the dream of a battle at the Sheffield Stadium on Wednesday Hillsborough live with another winner?
Or will the wily and experienced southerner Pello, who has lost once in 26 professional fights, be overthrown?
BBC Sport spoke to boxing figures from across the world to predict who will come out on top.
Chantelle Cameron – two weight world champion
“I think it’s going to be a great fight, I think it’s going to be a lot of close rounds, but I’m going to get a majority decision win for Smith in a really tough fight.”

Prediction – Smith
Darren Barker – former middleweight world champion
“What a great fight this is. They’re such terrific matches with contrasting styles. You’ve got a slick southpaw in Puello and a tough, rugged, skilled Smith. Puello will meet Dalton, a southpaw who throws a fantastic right hand.
“This is the end of the margin – the highest level of chess. I think that Dalton will come through the decision, or maybe a late stop, and will give two back victories to settle his place in the top 15 of the pound numbers.”
Prediction – Smith
Carl Frampton – two-weight world champion
“I think this is going to be an interesting fight. Both guys have a similar style. The guy is a puncher who goes to the body really well. He throws a left hook pretty well and Dalton is going to be pretty cautious.

“There will be a cage in the beginning and I think Puello will fall after a little bit. Dalton is a better boxer and better in the game. Puello will then be betrayed and I think Dalton will be the suit.
“So I see Dal’s removal as a fairly broad point of view.”
Prediction – Smith
Denzel Bentley – WBO middleweight champion
“It’s a good fight and I think Puello is a good fighter, but I’m Team Smith. He boxes well and his style has matured. Puello holds hands and is good up close, but Smith can find a way to beat him. If he gets knocked out then that’s a big word, but I’ll win on points for Smith.”

Barry Jones – former Super-featherweight champion of the world
“It’s a tougher fight for Smith than Matias. Matias was a monster, while Puello is a talented boxer who sits on the back foot and punches nice and long. He’s a southpaw who makes it difficult to match his feet and stance.
“In the end, I think the angles of attack will be the difference for Smith. I think it’s going to be a frustrating night for him, but I think he’ll come out on top of the points.
“He’ll be relatively happy – not encouraging Matias to win, perhaps – but a good returner.”

Leo Viddal – European cruiserweight world champion
“I’m going back to Dalton, he’s been my guy since we were 12 years old. He’s been my guy in every tournament and now he’s the WBC world champion.”
Prediction – Smith
Lee Selby – former slender world champion
“Dalton Smith is determined to beat Alberto Puello and retain his world title. Smith’s power, accuracy and impressive stoppage defeat of Subriel Matias make him a formidable opponent.
“Although Puello’s experience and awkward southpaw style could make it a difficult fight, I think Smith will be too powerful and worth the effort. Smith can win unanimously.”

Paulie Malignaggi – two-weight champion of the world
“The guy can be awkward and disrupt the rhythm like he’s winning over guys like current WBA champion Gary Antoine Russell, but Dalton is a great light welterweight and his gloves are on point as well as smart decision making.
“Subriel Matias wins this stop heavy but I see Dalton winning this on points. Puello things will be complicated for a few moments, but Smith wins a comfortable decision.”
Prediction – Smith
Ade Oladipo – DAZN Presenter
“It’s a big fight. The utility arena is a pound-for-pound force in the country. To use a football analogy, I think there should be a 12-man for Dalton.

“I think against him. The boy has a very unique talent, like Dalton who put on his life in January.
“Dal has a lot of advantages but Puello comes here with the most experience in this division. He wants the belt back, which he thinks was taken from him in his loss to Matias.
“I’m going for the current champion because of home advantage, but I won’t be embarrassed if Puello goes for the belt.”
Prediction – Smith
Adam Smith – DAZN commentator
“Dalton is a real hero in Sheffield but Puello is very dangerous. He is from the south and a former two-time world champion.

“It’s a tough first defense but Dalton has the home advantage, age and undefeated record. He probably has plans A, B, C and D. He’s a very fine boxer, whose color is perfect – an excellent amateur and a solid professional.”
“I expect him to come through a tough test.”
Prediction – Smith
Zelfa Barrett – British lightweight
“I think Dalton will take him late in – round nine or 10. Dalton Pello is too good to stop him, he’s pressing but Dalton will only have his number.”
Prediction – Smith
Richie Woodhall – former super-middleweight world champion
“Dal will have a little too much speed and a little too much savvy. One thing that Dalton has to be careful of is that he can’t afford to slow it down to the girl’s pace. It’s good when he’s fixed, he wants to stand in front of the opponent, he doesn’t like when he moves.

“If Dalton is on his feet and out, he’s slyly teasing, he’ll be able to beat him pretty comfortably as long as he’s not standing and trading.”
Prediction – Smith
Harlem Eubank – British welterweight
“Dalton has won the points. I think it will be a competitive fight but Dalton is on the edge of the sword.”
