“We’re very excited about the breed that we got here at Fasig-Tipton and the chicken and the filly,” said Jerry Lundergan, who also owned the $230,000 Magic chicken (419 hips) at the meeting.

“We’ve always loved this,” said Sarah Sutherland of Heartwood Firm. “We thought Saratoga was a good fit for him because he was in the catalog and he intended to go there. We ended up deciding that Saratoga came too soon, so we thought maybe we should wait, give him time, come here. Fortunately, Karin and Christian Bradeen are wonderful owners who always do what is right by the horse. So we gave him time and they were rewarded.”

A colt from Into (hips 676) sold for the top price of the session at $800,000 to RTM Racing from Dixiana Farms (video). The bay colt has been graded out of the stakes by the English Channel mare Brielle, already the mother of three winners from three to the race. The immediate family of multiple Grade 1 winner and top-three third seed sire Charlatan. Hip 676 was bred in Kentucky by Dixian Farms.

“The horse was splendid,” said bloodstock agent Mahmud Mouni, who signed as a colt for RTM Racing. “The best horse in the sale, I think. Superstar is in trouble. I hope we will have luck with this horse.”

In a recent session, a colt by Into (hips 755) sold for $700,000 to DJ Stables by Bridie Harrison, agent for Peter E. Blum Thoroughbreds (video). The bay colt is stakes-placed by Candy Ride (ARG) mare Co Cola, whose three recent winners include Grade 1 millionaire winner Outcome (Flatter). The domestic family includes multiple Grade/Group 1 winner Mind Biscuits. Hip 755 was bred in Kentucky by Peter E. Blum Thoroughbreds.

“I saw him go by and he said, ‘It’s a runner,'” said coach Marcus Casse, who signed a ticket for DJ Stabulario. “I woke up Jon Green and said, ‘That’s the one I want.’

“Kentucky’s second session in October was a strong yearling sale,” said Fasig-Tipton President Boyd Browning. “We’ve seen competitive bidding throughout the day. I don’t think there’s any real significance in the market. We’ve seen the same trends that were at the beginning of the year.”

During the two days of the sale, 537 yearlings changed hands for $33,012,500, up slightly from the 529 yearlings sold for $32,776,500 in the first two sessions of last year. The average was $61,476 and the median was $35,000. The RNA rate is 23 percent.
