Kompany will undergo an investigation in the hospital and will remain under medical care. At some point, his staff will manage the training and activities of the team.”

Kompany also missed sessions on Monday and Tuesday ahead of the club’s Champions League fixture against Arsenal, which was attended by coach Aaron Danks. The 40-year-old contracted a viral infection last week and after the meetings achieved after Bayern’s 6-1 victory over RB Leipzig, he still managed the match from the sidelines. Danks confirmed in a pre-match interview that the virus had affected Kompany’s legs, with the manager feeling pain in them. It is not known if this virus is related to Friday’s crash.

Then he went up to face Bayern Munich Freiburg at the Bundesliga on Sunday. Unbeaten to start the season, they are level at the top of the league table with Borussia Dortmund, while sitting 14th in the Champions League standings.
