What is the average week for Texas A&M?

Texas A&M’s season continues in Week 11 against South Carolina in Columbia, as the Aggies rest this weekend in their Week 10 bye and focus on getting as healthy as possible to get through the next four weeks, which will require depth chart changes.

However, coach Mike Elko confirmed on Wednesday’s SEC Teleconference that senior quarterback Marcel Reed will remain the starter, despite throwing eight touchdowns and eight interceptions through eight games, while star freshman running back KJ Edwards is the only bright spot in the offense after emerging as a starter.

From Monday to Friday there was no movement on the coaching staff or the depth chart, but changes could happen next week, while the general focus for Mike Elko is to evaluate both the offense and the defense, evaluate various issues and enter Week 11 with a game plan that hopefully gives the Aggies a chance to win every remaining game.

Per ESPN FPI, Texas A&M isn’t predicted to win another game, which isn’t terrible, but it still proves a bad football game that shouldn’t be taken seriously until it’s more focused, physical, and less laughable on the sidelines.

Injury updates

Texas A&M stands to enter next week with few to no health issues out of players for the year. After the loss at Alabama, the Aggies did not sustain injuries, but, like every team, players on both sides of the ball, especially the starters, are cold and need a full two weeks of rest.

Is Mike Elko on the hot seat?

The short answer? No. But his seat is heating up and based on a recent comment about the Aggies’ No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class, the third-year head coach is desperate to commit to all 25, losing four-star linebacker Ashton Whiteside, who flipped to Miami.

The Aggies Wire explained Mike Elko’s contract after he signed his massive extension late last year, and compared it to former coach Jimbo Fisher’s deal; Texas A&M is somewhat protected if the Aggies choose to move from Elko for two seasons.

Looking ahead to South Carolina?

Texas A&M’s 31-20 road loss to Alabama was a tale of two halves: Marcel Reed’s early interception issues also included two impressive touchdown drives, but outside of one successful drive in the second half, the Aggies poured out a 14-0 Crisson Heat, while Reed failed to regain his confidence in the pocket.

The added rest should help the Aggies down the road, but knowing Marcel Reed continues as the starter doesn’t inspire confidence; meanwhile, Texas A&M’s defense has been hot and cold all season and now faces the physicality of South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers, one of the country’s more underrated quarterbacks.

Texas A&M faces South Carolina in Columbia on Nov. 7. Kickoff is 2:00 pm CT. The game will be televised on ESPN.
