Brent Venables reveals another top priority in Oklahoma’s search for a co-ordinator

Brent Venables asked questions about what comes after Ben Arbuckle in Tuesday’s press conference with the Oklahoma Sooners at 4-4, playing tight ends coach Jason Witten at interim base and heading to the No. 25 Florida Gators on Saturday.

Oklahoma is No. 111 in the FBS in total offense, averages 22 points per game and sits next in the SEC in touchdowns, and the field goals have been a testament to that. By Oct. 24 In the Mississippi State win over the Bulldogs, the Sosores attempted 17 field goals, tied for the most in the league, and ranked No. 120 nationally in red zone offense. That only produced two touchdowns in the win, and six field goal attempts.

“We’re winning touchdowns in this league … It’s been getting out of our way, especially when it comes to that low red part of the field,” Arbuckle said on Oct. 27.

Oklahoma then lost 42-25 at home to the South Carolina Gamecocks, and Arbuckle was fired on Monday in the second year of his three-year contract.

“It’s incredibly important that someone come here and give us a touch. I don’t care how fast it happens. I don’t care how much time there is on the clock … At some point, we’ll see where we are after the season,” Venables said.
