Quickly improving Sunday, Finery won his second consecutive road race and earned his first stakes by capturing the $275,000 Mazarine Stakes (G3) Sunday at Woodbine.
Ridden by Sahin Civaci for the second straight contest, Mystic Guide broke out flatly from post 4 as the field of five tackled the 1 1/16 mile main course route in a well-paced event for 2-year-old fillies.

For the first time under the wire, Citizens Finery of the Sun settled on the final five with the angst to turn it into a film for closure. Mrs D pointed the way, with Mo Cookie brushing her off. Epic Ouid third Q. Fabius Vibulanus. Homeawayfromhome and Die Solis Finery completed the morning run order by opening two furlongs in :23.66.
The stretch, Mrs. D, increased by Mo Cookie’s pressure, continued to lead through the half mile through the hole: 48.36. In the distance, Mrs D was clearly shaken by that foe, as Epic Business pushed harder on the tired Mo Cookie, while out of angst to challenge for the lead by three furlongs, in 1:12.60.
Meanwhile, on Sunday Finery flexed and moved into third position to hit the top three head lane. Out of the eighth pole, Sun Finery’s trained James Begg blasted away brilliantly, powering home by 6 3/4 lengths in a final time of 1:44.29.
Bred in Ontario by Bernard and Karen McCormack, Finery of the Sun was Mazarin’s only filly with two turns of experience on the all-time Woodbine surface, leading the field to break a maiden by 13 1/2 lengths on September 26.

‘For he always thought that the race was a two-horse turn,’ said Regg. “When he showed in his previous races, we were happy because he was always like that, that the race was at a further level of development, with his race and everything and just as he looked and learned.”
Owners of Walmac Farm, Jeff Begg, Annabel Begg, Eric Long and Bart Siegel, Solis Finery in Mazarin was making the start of its five-year career, after smashing the triumph when making its road debut.
Her founder said the Princess Elizabeth Stakes of 1 1/16 miles (November 28) could be next on the filly’s schedule.
“As long as everything happens correctly, the race that we planned at the beginning was that we were looking for that race and we saw the race that Leo put the race in this race well for that race that was the race that was always the race at the end of the season with her.”

The win with Mazarine, Sun Finery, who was produced by Uncle Mo’s mare Aunty Mo, improved to 2-1-1 in five career starts, remaining undefeated at the distance. Victor opened the line at 6-1 in the morning, went to the post at 7-2 and returned $9.20 to win. Mr. D was second, after Epic Matters, Mo Quisque and Homeawayfromhome.
