Kansas Opens Backyard Practice to Private Viewing for Fans

Kansas basketball is giving a small crowd of fans the opportunity to get a first look at the men’s and women’s teams as they prepare for the 2026-27 season.

The Kansas men’s and women’s basketball programs continued to prepare for the upcoming seasons, with both teams entering the fall season with much attention surrounding their new-look rosters. The ability for fans to watch practice sessions in a different way provides a way for supporters to see teams before they officially begin their exhibition schedules.

For Kansas fans, practices are usually closed to the public, private opportunities to watch the players compete and get a feel for how each team is suited. As both programs support their preparation for their respective seasons, the sessions can also provide a first look at the chemistry and development that takes place within the gym.

The team of men, trained by Billio himself, enters the season with great expectations, after adding several new parts to the number. Kansas is also preparing for a challenging schedule that includes matchups against Pittsburg State, Louisville and Duke. A matchup against Pittsburg State on Oct. 16 will be plenty of Phog night, with Louisville and Duke following later in October.

One of the biggest storylines around the team is how quickly new players can develop chemistry. Watching practice provides an opportunity to see how Sui mixes returning players with newcomers and which players could emerge as important contributors once the regular season begins.

The women’s team is also gearing up for the season with plenty of familiar features and new additions. Head coach Brandon Schneider reports All-Big 12 First Team selections S’Mya Nichols and Jaliya Davis giving Kansas experience to build around.

The Jayhawks will begin their exhibition schedule against North State on Oct. 22 before hosting Washburn on Oct. 29 as part of a night in Phog. Kansas will then officially open its season against Omaha on Nov. 3 at Allen Fieldhouse.

Licensing for private previews provides an opportunity to see the work before the lights go on for the actual game. It also adds another level of confusion as both systems move closer to their first opportunities against opponents outside the competition.

For Kansas, the coming weeks will be about establishing turnovers, building chemistry and preparing for challenges ahead. For fans who receive access to private customs, there will be an early opportunity to see them ready up close.
