Welcome to the Minor League Update. The minor league season involves playoff action. Because of the hunger for games, this will cover the whole week, and close the season before the winter leagues return. Here’s who made waves this week;
Hitter of the Week
Justin DeCriscio, 2B, San Diego Padres (AFL Peoria); 3-4, 2 R, 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI.
Selected by the Padres in 2025 out of North Carolina State, DeCriscio moved up the ladder quickly this summer, seeing time in three majors and the end of the season at Double-A San Antonio. Currently getting extra reps around the diamond in fall league, he is a versatile defender who can be plugged in anywhere in the infield but also doesn’t miss a beat at shortstop. That ball, plus his ability to consistently turn in powerups at night, could earn him big league play in the near future.
Urn of the Week
Jarlin Susan, RHP, Washington Nationals (Salt River AFL); 5 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K.
Despite missing nearly an entire calendar year following shoulder surgery in 2025, Susan returned in August and absolutely dominated, hitting over 39% of the batters he faced. On Tuesday, he built on that streak by logging his longest outing since before the injury, holding a triple-digit velocity all game and hitting 102 mph on the final pitch of the night. Shooting in the desert can be notoriously difficult, but Susana makes it easy to see while flashing a deep arsenal of slick-shooting, ace-genius weapons.
