There are five to know on Monday

  1. Week 1 of the NFL preseason is in the books. Maybe the 2026 rookie quarterback class isn’t so bad after all. Multiple young signal callers including Fernando Mendoza, Ty Simpson and Drew Allar shined in their first professional games, and after Carson Beck took a look at last week’s Hall of Fame game. These are among the biggest winners in the first batch of preseason competitions. Things didn’t go so well for Shedeur Sanders, though, in his quest to win the starting job for the Browns. And the Cardinals held their breath when Jeremiah Love sustained a high ankle sprain, but the good news for No. 3 overall could be a healthy range during the regular season opener. Speaking of injuries, Jaxson Dart continues to tire of trips to the medical tent.
  2. Islam Makhachev holds the longest streak in UFC history. With a unanimous decision victory over Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330, Makhachev not only retained his title, but also achieved 17 consecutive victories. That streak dates back to 2016 and is the longest streak by a single UFC fighter. Makhachev’s triumph was not the easiest, as Garry made him work and exposed some of his vulnerabilities. But the contender couldn’t pull off the upset because of what Dana White called a lack of “killer instinct.” Who will be the next to challenge the champion? Carlos Prates or Michael Morales could win the IRC with Makhachev. And on the topic of future matchups, the UFC 333 fight card is set.
  3. Scottie Scheffler opened the FedEx Cup Playoffs with a runaway victory. Scheffler notched his first win since February when he finished eight shots clear of second-place Si Woo Kim at the St. Jude Championship. It was the show’s second round of world No. 1 away from the pack to run 61 on the way to the LIMITS win. Scheffler is guaranteed to hold first place in the FedEx Cup standings for at least the next week, as he will earn bonus money in addition to the $3.6 million payout from the St. Jude Championship.
  4. The NFL issued four suspensions, including an eight-game ban to James Pearce Jr. In the mouth of the rushing Falcons, the suspension looks the most, which stems from a February arrest for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, fleeing and eluding police and violently resisting an officer on his person. While the charges were eventually dismissed, the NFL decided to violate the personnel policy. Dorance Armstrong Jr. leads the rush. received a one-game suspension for a personal conduct policy violation, Bills defensive end Phidaria Mathis must sit out three games for violating the substance abuse policy and Titans cornerback Nazeeh Johnson six games from positive tests for a performance-enhancing drug. Johnson explained that he unknowingly took the substance.
  5. The baseball community remembers Tommy John after his death at 83. John’s name seems to have become ubiquitous in baseball because of the experimental surgery he underwent on his elbow in 1974. The successful process helped John continue an all-star career in which he finished in the top eight in Cy Young Award voting in four consecutive years, and made three consecutive all-star teams and reached the World Series with both the Dodgers and Yankees. In addition to the marks he made in the record books, John made a consistent impression on baseball and other sports that he wanted to undergo a historic operation.

Don’t miss this: College football’s most overrated, underrated players

Last week, our Blake Brockermeyer revealed his annual preseason ranking of the top 150 players in college football. Not everyone agreed on the order in which the game’s biggest stars were placed. To determine which players were overrated and underrated, our reporters reached out to executives and got their opinions on who was in the top 10.

To the same we must say that many experts; Lacinia publica quarterback Dr it does not belong in the most elite order. Eight out of 10 sources of our reporters were cut off, said the higher one in No. 9.

  • Big Ten general manager: “I’m sure I’m not going to put (Drew) over it.” (Jayden) Maiava or * (Julianus) Sayin in words of pure genius. I don’t think you can top him (John) Mattor It’s crazy now that I think about it. No way. It is the second best quadrant in that state.

At the same time, few players are higher performers than Brockermeyer. The following four players received votes to be “rated”:

5. Leonard MooreCB Our Lady
6. Colin SimmonsOF Texas
7. Jordan SeatonOT LSU
VIII. Kewan LacyRB Ole Miss

AL teams have no MLB Power Sparrows

Only one American team in our top five weekly MLB Power Rankings. There are only three in the top 10 and four in the top 13. The AL West is standing at a measly No. 14.

We are in the midst of an abysmal year AL. The bigger teams have had rough times since then, and it simply hasn’t gotten any better. Even the best team in the league Raysthey are, they quarrel. They have dropped five of their last six games at home and lost the first three games of a four-game streak against the Tigers Orioles.

Does anyone want to touch a series of things? If not the only accumulation Brewers How much do the world champions move to next year? As not as no one. But this kind of feels like a foregone conclusion that whichever team emerges as the defending National Champions will end up lifting the Commissioner’s Trophy.

Here are the five best teams in the AL and where they stand in this week’s power play:

2. Rays (–)
6. Yankees (–)
VIII. White Sox (-2)
11. Red Sox (↓4)
14 Astros (-2)
