The Baltimore Orioles are shaking up their front office. Coming off another down year, the team decided to bring in fresh blood, as they reportedly hired their new general manager via ESPN, Jared Banner.
Banner previously served as the assistant general manager of the Chicago Cubs.
The move comes more than a year after former Baltimore general manager Mike Elias was promoted to president of baseball operations. At the time, it was announced that the Orioles would hire a new general manager before the 2026 MLB season. That did not happen, and Elias fulfilled the role by assuming 2026.

The flag has quite an extensive history around the game. When he broke into the Boston Red Sox, he went from assistant in player development to president of player personnel in 11 years. He was then hired by the New York Mets as the team’s executive director of player development. He played two seasons with the team in that role.
Then he joined the cubs. He joined the banner as vice president of special projects with the team, but has since made his role as assistant general manager. He pitched three seasons before being hired by the Orioles on Monday.
The Orioles are looking to improve soon in 2016
In his new role, Banner will be involved in turning around an Orioles team that has fallen short of expectations over the past two years. After going 91-71 in 2024, the Orioles won just 75 and 79 games the past two seasons.

During that time, the team promoted and developed a few promising players, such as Gunnar Henderson and Samuel Basallo. Things are tired on the pitching side, where the Orioles have given up at least 735 runs in both seasons.
