Welcome to the Minor League Update. The minor league season involves playoff action. Because of the hunger for games, this will cover the entire week, and close the season before the winter leagues return. Here’s who made waves this week;
Hitter of the Week
Ike Irish, 1B, Baltimore Orioles (AFL Peoria); 4-5, R, 2B, 2 RBI.
Touted as the leading college bat in the 2025 draft, Irish lived up to the hype with his strong season in High-A before suffering a torn meniscus in July that put him on the shelf for the rest of the Sally League schedule. The recovery went well and back, outside the bats in the desert. The appearances have been good at the plate, with the Irish now hitting .414 (12-29) through the first seven games with Peoria.
Urn of the Week
Luke Holman, RHP, Cincinnati Reds (AFL Peoria); 3 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K.
A power hitter during his time as an amateur at LSU, Holman looked like a potential fast-moving player in the organization before going down with an elbow injury two starts into his professional career. Mound returned to the AFL and returned to his requisite hitting ways, fanning 10 through his first five innings of work.
