Captain Basketball posted his debut on Saturday at the County Craziness, as Team White won, 29-24, in the game winning three by Deron Rippey (see link below for that story).
The second play of the game was very encouraging, as Dame Sarr drove to the basket and hit a layup. As you remember, he struggled with that last season.

Overall, not necessarily light, which is not surprising at first, but there are some really positive things.
For the white team, Rippey and Sebastian Wilkins scored 7 each. Unfortunately, Patrick Ngongba went down in a scary moment, but apparently, it’s nothing serious.
Good thing, because he looked great early. He had some really sharp constraints, which could give Jon Scheyer a conundrum: Ngongba is likely to be the first leader in the middle player, but he is better at the position of captain. It will be interesting to see how Ngongba is used when Drew Scharnowski is back, because the Belmont transfer is a bruiser and we could see a high post/low post scenario with those two.
Rippey also looked good, even in bad games. This is a tremendous athlete. We were really impressed with Wilkins, who, among other things, got an abrupt steal and a nice dark one.

Young bigs, JoJo Boumtje Boumtje seemed a bit tentative, but good. It’s just a scrimmage. You could see the fluidity in Cameron Williams’ game as well. He is going to do it. Most notably, Meyer scored a basket off the rebound and got a solid block on Caleb Foster.
John Blackwell had a couple of moves that seemed daunting at first, but, with the savvy veterans, the shots fell.
Foster was solid, as you’d expect, and Boozer didn’t necessarily have a great scrimmage, but he’ll be fine.
Finally, Bryson Howard was mostly quiet, but he hit one outside shot that was really nice.

It’s a scrimmage, so don’t worry too much. Next week they will start playing against Mount Bell, and we will have a much better idea of where things stand then.
